Triple Take Tuesdays -- Nobody uses your open-door policy (here's why)

TAKE #1 -- TRIGGER: A new manager proudly announced his "open door policy" at the all-hands meeting. Six months later, he wonders why no one brings him problems until they explode into full-blown crisis mode.

TAKE #2 -- INSIGHT: Open-door policies don't create psychological safety . . . they expose psychological danger zones. When employees don't use the "open doors," they're saying the offices aren’t safe. Yes, doors might be open, but the expected outcomes are seen as closed.

TAKE #3 -- SHIFT: Stop advertising your open door. Start proving your safe responses. When someone brings you bad news, thank them before you problem-solve. When they point out flaws, reward them before you defend. When they challenge you, listen before you explain.

KEEP IN MIND: An unused open-door policy is often an early sign of a failing performance review.
