Triple Take Tuesdays -- Why your best employee just quit (and maybe it's your fault)

TAKE #1 -- PROBLEM: A top performer asks for a raise. Her boss says no because "it wouldn't be fair to everyone else." Six months later, she quits. Now you're paying a recruiter $75K to find someone half as good.

TAKE #2 -- PATTERN: "Treat everyone equally" is the dumbest advice in HR history. Equal treatment rewards mediocrity and punishes excellence. When you treat your A-players the same as your C-players, you're telling them their effort doesn't matter.

TAKE #3 -- PRACTICE: Start being unfair . . . strategically. Give your best people better projects, more flexibility, and higher pay. Your average employees will either step up or step out. Either way, you win.

KEEP IN MIND: Fairness isn't equal treatment . . . it's proportional reward for contribution.
